DEANE Smalley netted a hat-trick as Argyle eased into the third round of the Edenvale Turf Ltd Devon St Luke's Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.

Smalley stroked home a 31st-minute penalty after he had been fouled, nine minutes after Marvin Morgan had opened the scoring for the Pilgrims at the King George V ground, to give Argyle a 2-0 half-time lead.

The former Oxford striker claimed his second five minutes after the break and completed his triple midway through the second half with another penalty, after Morgan had been fouled.

Carl Rickard claimed a late consolation for the home side.

Argyle will now travel to Buckland Athletic in the Challenge Cup quarter-final.
