Three Into Four

THE last time Argyle picked up four wins in a row was six seasons ago under Paul Sturrock...

...but current Pilgrims boss John Sheridan has a chance to equal that when Carlisle United come to Home Park this Saturday.

Argyle now boast the joint best defensive record in Sky Bet League 2 going into the One Game, One Community match against the Cumbrians.

John has praised his defence for their efforts this season, but has told his squad it is not just his defence and Luke McCormick who keep the goals out.

“When you get a clean sheet, you look at the back four and the keeper,” he said, “but it’s a team effort, and we work hard during the week.

“We try and drill it into the players as much as we can to not let things happen easily, so they’re all playing a part in keeping clean sheets, which will give us confidence.

“If you’re keeping clean sheets, you’re not going to lose a game.”

With Argyle into a play-off place in mid-October, John is still determined to push the Pilgrims higher in the table. Even though they are looking for their fourth straight win in a row, the manager still believes that there are things his squad can still improve on.

“Three wins out of three will, hopefully, give us confidence for Saturday,” he said. “It puts us in a bit more of a healthier position in the league table and everything starts to look a bit more positive.

“You don’t just leave it there; you’ve got to try and keep improving – there’s still lots of things we need to do in our game to make us better.

“But it won’t do us any harm and hopefully we can carry it on. You’ve got to build on that.”
