Smells Like Team Spirit

CARL McHugh has praised the strength of team spirit he has found since arriving at Argyle.

Carl’s words echo those of defensive colleague Peter Hartley, who last week said that the current squad of players is the “best group of lads” he has worked with in his career.

McHugh, a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, joined the Pilgrims in the summer from Bradford City, and said: “I’ve loved it so far. We’ve got a great set of lads, we’ve got a great team spirit and that’s something that’s really stood out for me.”

During last week’s press conference, Hartley expressed his belief that a strong team spirit could result in “12 points a season”, that it could be “the difference between winning the league and finishing third.”

It is clear that this belief is shared by McHugh, who added: “Hopefully, over the course of a long, old season, our team morale will stand us well. As players, we’re doing everything we can on the training pitch and the effort’s been unbelievable from all the lads so far.

“We have to continue with that and try and get the results.”
