Pilgrims Win Through to Cup Final

Willand Rovers 0

Argyle 4
Calver, Purrington, Harvey, Norburn

ARGYLE eased into the final of the Edenvale Turf Ltd Devon St Luke’s Challenge Cup on Wednesday thanks to a four-star second-half performance at Silver Street.

A quartet of quality strikes after half-time means Argyle will now play Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division mid-table side Bideford in the final at a time and venue to be confirmed.

Apprentice Jack Calver gave Argyle the lead early in the second half after linking with Ben Steer, before Willand were reduced to ten men when Dean Stamp was sent off for a reckless challenge on Tyler Harvey.

Harvey set up Ben Purrington for the Pilgrims' second goal from the resultant free-kick.

The game, which saw striker Matt Lecointe make a return to an Argyle starting line-up after the best part of two years out injured, was petering out when Harvey swept home the third and Ollie Norburn added the fourth late on.

Argyle (4-4-2): James Bittner; Mason Hughes (Owen Jones), Aaron Bentley, Ben Purrington, Callum Hall (Liam Knowles); Billy Palfrey, Ollie Norburn, Ben Steer, Jack Calver; Tyler Harvey, Matt Lecointe (Jamil Roberts). Substitutes (not used): Cory Harvey (gk).
