Reasons to be Cheerful: Northampton v Argyle

OUR most positive of Pilgrims, Haden Tye, takes a look at why we should be upbeat this week...

Double Double
Argyle have done the double over Northampton for two seasons on the bounce. Argyle came out victorious against Northampton in the 2013-14 campaign with a 1-0 win at Home Park and a 2-0 win at Sixfields Stadium. Last season the Pilgrims continued with their impressive form against the Cobblers, with a 2-0 home win and a 3-2 win away from home. Interestingly, Lewis Alessandra scored in each of those four wins.

Blasts From the Past
On August 22, Argyle have recorded some brilliant victories. A 5-0 win against Crystal Palace in 1951, a 7-1 win against Preston North End in 1962 and 6-1 win against Huddersfield Town in 1987 means the date of Saturday's game has previously been a very good day for the Pilgrims. Argyle's scorers against Crystal Palace were Gordon Astall, Bill Strauss, Peter Rattray and George Dews with a double. Johnny Williams scored once and Wilf Carter, Micky Lill and Jimmy McAnearney each scored twice to make up the Pilgrims' seven goals against Preston. Finally, 1987 saw Tommy Tynan get on the scoresheet twice, with Kevin Summerfield, Nicky Law, Stewart Evans and Keith Furphy making up the scorers.

Sitting Pretty
Argyle will travel to Sixfields full of confidence from a 4-1 home victory against Carlisle United, whilst Northampton will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss against Barnet at The Hive Stadium. Both the Pilgrims and the Cobblers sit on six points, with two wins from their first three league games, but mid-week's action may put the momentum in Argyle's favour.
