ARGYLE have signed Reading’s Craig Tanner on loan from the Sky Bet Championship side.
The 20-year-old forward has come to Home Park on a six-month loan, until January 2.
Camberley-born Craig has already played twice at the Theatre of Greens, most recently in July’s pre-season friendly between Argyle and the Royals’ Under-21 side.
Although he missed a penalty at the Devonport end, when his shot struck Luke McCormick’s left-hand post, Craig’s performance on the right side of midfield that afternoon caught everyone’s eye.
Craig’s previous Home Park outing came at the tail end of last season, when he was at loan at AFC Wimbledon – who, coincidentally, Argyle face in their first Sky Bet League 2 game of the new campaign on Saturday.
He came on as a half-time substitute for Jack Smith in a 1-1 draw in which Anthony O’Connor scored for Argyle and Ade Azeez levelled for the Dons.
He has been with Reading since the age of eight and signed his first professional contract, for Brendan Rodgers, as a 16-year-old. That contract was extended earlier this year until the end of the 2016-17 season.
He made his first appearance for the Royals last season in the first round of the Capital One Cup, when he scored the fastest debut goal in Madejski Stadium history, netting within five minutes of coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3-1 win against Newport County.
After three Championship appearances from the bench and a full first-team debut in the second round of the Capital One Cup, in a 1-0 win at Scunthorpe, he went out on loan to Wimbledon for the second half of the season. He made 19 appearances for the Dons, including 16 starts.
Craig has been given the number 27 shirt while he is at Home Park.
Welcome to Home Park, Craig.
