Goals Are Afoot

REUBEN Reid netted the winning goal in Argyle’s 2-1 win pre-season win against Reading’s Under-21 side, and Derek Adams is delighted with the striker’s progress and work rate following a foot injury.

The Pilgrims’ top scorer for the past two seasons dealt with his long-standing knock over the summer break, and has been gradually getting back up to speed with his teammates during July.

Following 75 minutes and three goals for Argyle’s development side during the week, he smashed home the Greens’ second goal with three minutes to go against the young Royals, after Graham Carey’s opener was cancelled out by Lisandro Semedo’s strike.

Whilst stressing that his forward was still on the road to recovery, albeit ahead of schedule, Adams believes Reuben’s goal is just reward for how he has applied himself this month.

“We’re just trying to get him back to fitness,” said Derek. “He’s still a wee bit behind but he’s working ever so hard, and he knows where the goals are.

“He’s been fantastic since I came here. He’s very strong, he holds defenders off and he knows the way to goal.

“He’s been a renowned goal-scorer here for the last few seasons, and it’s important that we continue to work with him and the other strikers.

“Throughout the season, that’s going to be important to us, because we’re certainly going to supply him the chances.”
