Topsham 1 Argyle u18 4

KEVIN Hodges' young Pilgrims began their pre-season campaign in much the same way as they concluded last season - by winning.

Kevin will be hoping this year's group of Academy prospects can be as successful as last season's merit league winners, and they went about things in a good manner from the off by beating Devon and Exeter Premier Division side on Sunday.

Argyle won the game 4-1, with two goals from midfielder Ben Steer, one from new first-year apprentice Alex Battle, and a further goal coming via an own goal after good work by Dan Rooney, brother of new professional Louis.

Derek Adams was at the game, and said: "Craig Brewster was at Wimbledon vs Watford and I was at the u18 game on Sunday, so we've had a good weekend watching different games.

"It's always good to watch the under-18s; Sunday was a good win for them against Topsham, and it was good to see a few good goals. Its always nice to watch the younger players and watch to see who's going to come through."

The next game for Kev's kids will be at Callington on Wednesday, which kicks off at 7pm.
