Home Sawyer

GARY Sawyer will be renewing some old acquaintances on his return to Home Park.

New signing Gaz, 29, was a team-mate of Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick, striker Reuben Reid and first-team coach Paul Wotton during his first spell as a Pilgrim between 2006-10.

Gary, who became new Argyle manager Derek Adams' first signing on Thursday, made his Pilgrims debut alongside Luke in a Championship victory at Colchester United in August 2006.

The pair went on to play 51 times in the same Argyle side before their final appearance together against Wolves at Molineux in the final game of the 2007-08 Championship season.

However, they were on the same pitch as recently as last season, when Argyle entertained Leyton Orient in the first round of the Capital One Cup. The game ended in a 3-3 draw and Luke saved Gary's penalty kick in the sudden-death decider which the visitors eventually won.

Wottsy - like Luke, Reuben and Gary, now in his second spell with the Pilgrims - also featured in Gary's debut performance at Layer Road, the first of 12 matches side by side in the Green.

Their final match together was also towards the tail end of the 2007-08 season, at Charlton Athletic in a 2-1 April defeat.

Gary and Reuben played in the same Argyle side six times, five times in the 2007-08 season and once the following campaign.

They first shared a pitch when they were both substitutes in a 3-1 home Championship victory over Norwich City in September 2007, but did not start a match together until the following January, in a 1-1 home FA Cup draw at Peterborough United.

Their final match together was also a cup-tie - the following season's League Cup first-round 2-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers at Home Park.
