Lewi Lands a Spot at Rochdale

LEWIS Alessandra is joining Sky Bet League 1 Rochdale.

Lewi, the Pilgrims’ second-top scorer for the past two seasons, will link up with Dale’s former Argyle manager Keith Hill at Spotland for the 2015-16 season.

The 26-year-old striker’s two-year Home Park contract has come to an end and he had expressed a desire to move closer to his Lancashire home for family reasons: with Spotland being a 13-minute bus journey from his Heywood roots, he has certainly achieved that.

Lewi joined Argyle in the summer of 2013 from Morecambe and, if not many of the Home Park faithful knew a lot about him, manager John Sheridan certainly did – Lewi had made his way through Oldham Athletic’s youth system whilst John was in charge of the Latics.

Used occasionally in a wide position, his partnership up front with Reuben Reid proved to be the first genuine Home Park strike pairing in years, producing 66 goals in two successful seasons.

His final game for the Pilgrims was also a landmark one, when he became the 186th Pilgrim to make a century of Argyle appearances when he lined up for the Greens in the second leg of the Sky Bet League 2 play-off semi-final at Wycombe.

Lewi’s first goals came in a memorable 3-2 Capital One Cup defeat to Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City, with the second strike – a right-footed screamer from 25 yards out – chosen as Argyle’s goal of the season.

He went on to score 12 goals in his first season with the club, netting five times in the Pilgrims’ seven cup games, including a memorable double in a 5-0 thrashing of former club Morecambe at Home Park.

Last season, he went one better, scoring 13 goals as helped the Pilgrims to the play-offs. His value to the team can be best assessed by the fact that Argyle won 10 of the 11 games in which he scored.

Everyone at Home Park thanks Lewi for his contribution as a Pilgrim and wishes him continued success in his future career.
