Taking Carey

DEREK Adams self-admittedly went against type after the Pilgrims preserved their five-point lead at the top of Sky Bet League 2 with a comfortable 2-1 win at York City.

Argyle claimed the win on the back of an utterly dominant first-half display in which Jake Jervis scored his tenth goal of the campaign, and Graham Carey capped another eye-catching display with another memorable strike.

The Irish playmaker’s contribution to the Pilgrims’ sixth away win from nine road-trips had his former Ross County manager licking his lips.

“I don’t like to pick out people usually, but Graham Carey was absolutely outstanding today,” he said.

“He’s a top player. I’ve signed him three times now and he’s really done the business.

“He was involved in a lot of the good work we had today and he’s unfortunate not to have scored more. He’s created a number of opportunities and his all-round performance was top class, but it was a team performance.

“I said before the game that I wanted to have men out there today. We’ve got a lot of boys, because of their ages, but a lot of them stood up to the test and they did really well today.”
