Argyle v Crawley - Reasons to be Cheerful

HADEN Tye takes a look at our causes to be optimistic this weekend.

Out of the Blocks
This season is currently the tenth best start in Argyle history. The Pilgrims have taken 20 points from ten games; something we have done very few times - click here for a detailed rundown of Argyle's starts through history. Crawley, meanwhile, have managed just nine points so far.

On This Day
Argyle’s last game on October 3 was a 2-1 home win against Scunthorpe in the Championship. Rory Fallon and Alan Judge got Argyle’s goals. Gary Hooper scored a penalty for Scunthorpe, who stayed up, finishing 20th; however Argyle were relegated at the end of the season.

Banging Them In
Argyle boast two of the divisions top eight goalscorers, while Crawley have one on that list. Jake Jervis' six goals put in joint second in Sky Bet League 2 (he also has one on the Johnstone's Paint Trophy) with Graham Carey just a goal behind, with five. Crawley's representative is Gwion Edwards, who also has five.

Ten Goal Thriller
In 1959, on October 3, Argyle treated the Green Army to an extraordinary match, in which the Pilgrims ran out 6-4 winners. Argyle’s six goals were courtesy of a Wilf Carter hat trick, Alex Govan, Bill Wright and Peter Anderson. Let’s hope for another exciting October 3 this Saturday…
