Chris in Charge

CHRIS Sarginson is the referee for Argyle's home fixture on Saturday against Bristol Rovers.

His first match in charge of Argyle was a 4-3 defeat at Sheffield United in February 2010. Yala Bolasie, Joe Mason and Jamie Mackie were on target for the Greens on that occasion, with Mackie and David Stockdale going into the book. Bolasie was on target the second time Chris was in charge, too, along with Bradley Wright-Phillips, as Argyle drew 2-2 with Charlton Athletic.

The goals kept on coming with Chris in the middle as Argyle won 3-2 at Dagenham in October 2011. Matt Lecointe scored his first Argyle goal, and Conor Hourihane added a blinder to put Argyle 2-0 up. Daggers drew level, but former Pilgrim Damien McCrory was sent off for a foul on Isaac Vassell in injury time, and Simon Walton's penalty gave Argyle three points.

Another goal-packed thriller came later that season, when Argyle clawed back a 2-0 deficit at home to Southend, with Nick Chadwick and Alex MacDoald getting the Pilgrims level. There followed a 1-0 home defeat to Oxford the following season, and a 2-0 reverse at home to Fleetwood early in 2013-14. Since then, Chris has not been our referee.

Last season Chris showed 87 yellow cards in his 30 games, but only sent off three players. He is yet to show a red this season either, but has given out 19 cautions in 6 games. His record with red actually shows that he has given just nine red cards in his last 82 fixtures - but in one of those he sent three players off! Blackpool had three players dismissed in injury time in a 1-0 defeat at Yeovil Town.
