On Their Game

THIS midweek may have been the first of the current season without a first-team game...

...but plenty of Derek Adams’ squad still saw action.

Louis Rooney, David Ijaha, Craig Tanner, David Goodwillie and Jordan Slew all scored in Argyle’s 6-0 win over St Austell in the Carlsberg South Western League Premier Division on Tuesday, while Vincent Dorel, David Fox and Ben Purrington also got run-outs.

Derek was pleased at the tempo the game was played at, and the commitment of his professionals, all of whom will board the bus bound for Blackpool this weekend, where Argyle are next in Sky Bet League Two action.

“I thought it was a good performance,” said the Argyle manager. “The players who I wanted to give a game got a game, and played well. They haven't had as much game time as everybody else so it is important that we use these fixtures to give them match time.

“They're all going to be in the squad to go to Blackpool.

“We've done that last season - it's nothing new. We used the fixtures for boys that weren't getting a game, or needed match time.”

With the transfer window closing on August 31, time is running out for clubs that wish to conduct any more transfer activity, Derek gave an update on any potential further ins or outs at Home Park.

“There'll not be any outs, unless a huge bid comes in,” he said. “There is possibly one more in.

“I don't see it happening before Saturday's game. We'll keep on looking. We have a number of players and teams that we are talking to - but other clubs are talking to them, too. It's an ongoing process. We have to get the right player that fits this football club at this time.”
