Argyle Under 18s 1 Newport County 2

ARGYLE Under-18's were left scratching their heads in disbelief as to how they had lost this EFL Youth Alliance League, at Langsford Park, after dominating the game from start to finish.

"We had a nice result against Bournemouth last Saturday," said Academy Manager Kevin Hodges, "and I still felt that today we did enough to get a result but there were too many silly things happening in the game. Defensively, we conceded two soft goals.

"We are not going to continually score fours and fives every week so we have got to try and be a little bit stronger defensively. I thought we controlled the majority of the game but failed to capitalise on that possession."

Rhys Davies made a great save from Argyle top scorer Alex Fletcher before Aaron Taylor's fierce, first time drive, was deflected wide with the Newport goalkeeper well beaten.

Jordan Bentley and Alex Battle both missed chances before Bentley limped out of the action which momentarily halted the Greens momentum.

The Welsh visitors made the most of their one and only spell of pressure as a long thrown-in was flicked on for Rendits Kaining to fire the visitors ahead on 35 minutes.

Argyle came back before the break with Battle seeing his effort cleared off the line by Joe Hunt and the second half was just two minutes old when Battle cut in from the left to fire across Davies and inside the far post.
McAuley saw his volley fly across goal and wide before his cross found Battle volley against the far post.

Aaron Goulty hooked a good chance over the bar before Argyle had the ball in the back of the net only for a debatable offside flag to rule the effort out.
