Argyle Bag Premier Pre-season Opponents

ARGYLE will host Premier League West Bromwich Albion in the build-up to for the 2016-17 season.

The Baggies will visit on Saturday, July 30, in a game that kicks off at 5.30pm. It will be the Pilgrims’ only friendly at Home Park during pre-season.

Albion are managed by former Argyle boss Tony Pulis, who is assisted - as he was at Home Park - by David Kemp and Mark O’Connor. Kemp is also a former Argyle striker and manager.

Pulis has chosen to bring his West Brom squad, who are assured of being a Premier League side next season, back to Westcountry to an area he is familiar with. Pulis was Argyle boss for the bulk of the 2005-06 season, taking over when the Pilgrims were 20th in the Championship, and steering Argyle to a mid-table finish.

Current Argyle boss Derek Adams welcomed the opportunity to test his Pilgrims against high-class opposition just a week before next season gets under way.

“I think it’s something the fans will enjoy,” said Derek, “seeing us play against a Premier League club. It’s the only pre-season game at home so I hope we can get a good crowd and get ourselves focused for the season ahead.”

The West Bromwich game will conclude the pre-season schedule, with the Sky Bet season beginning on August 6.
