We Are Family

DEREK Adams’ family values have played a part in Argyle taking Sky Bet League Two by storm.

A 2-0 triumph at Exeter City in the 104th Devon Expressway Derby extended their lead at the top of the table to two points as first-half goals from Graham Carey and Arnold Garita propelled them to a sixth successive league victory.

Arnie, who also assisted for Graham’s opener, is the latest of 16 summer arrivals at Home Park, and it is testament to Derek’s recruiting skills that he and all the new boys have settled in so quickly, thinks Pilgrims’ midfielder Yann Songo’o.

“We are like a family here,” said Yann. “We spend a lot of time together. From the beginning, we have made him feel welcome at the club.

“It is important in the season; we need each other. Some games will be hard, when you will need your partner to be there for you, to buck you up. You need to be there for each other – that’s an important part of how you win games.”

Yann has been impressed with fellow Cameroonian Arnie, who bulldozed his way to 26th-minute second at St James Park after having teed up Graham for his fourth strike of the season 20 minutes earlier.

He said: “Garita, at the minute, is doing really well for us – he is helping us a lot – and you could see, in the game today, his strength and his power.

“He’s a really, really good striker and is very powerful. He has still got a lot to learn but he is going in the right direction. He works hard in training and in games, and hopefully there is more to come.”

Yann was delighted to have played his part in giving Derek his first derby win at Exeter – and first in the league – and to have sent home happy more than 1,500 members of the Green Army.

“Argyle fans are always there for us, no matter where we play or against who we play,” he said. “We owe them a lot, which is why, every game, we try to give them 100%.

“It was really special. The fans were amazing today for both sides and we saw a really good game.”
