Luke's Pride

ARGYLE captain Luke McCormick says he is proud to be in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Year which also included two other Pilgrims.

Sonny Bradley and Graham Carey were also included as Argyle were the only club to have three representatives.

The team is created from nominations made by players of all 24 clubs and it was revealed in London last week which 11 players had made the cut.

Experienced goalkeeper Luke has played every game for the Greens in League Two this campaign, bringing his total appearances for the club up to 335, and making some vital saves along the way.

Playmaker Graham has also been an ever-present, providing 15 goals and just as many assists, while defender Sonny has played 42 league games, making telling contributions at both ends of the field.

Luke said: “It’s the first time I’ve been included in one so it’s a very proud moment. I was very pleased to hear the news that I got in.

“It shows that we are doing something right; your teammates and the lads that are playing around you make a huge contribution.

“I suffered a lull in form last season and it is something I have never experienced before in my career. I’ve always been consistent

“I think I’ve benefited from that lull this season; there have been games where I could have done better and games where I’ve done quite well.

“You can’t be great all the time unfortunately;  I’d like to, but it’s not going to happen over the course of 50 games.

“Over the course of the season I’ve been happy to contribute to the team.

“The lads are doing what they should do in front of you, which they have done throughout the season. The work I’m having to do is limited and if they’re not getting chances, they’re getting half chances so it gives me a better opportunity to keep the ball out of the net. The lads that play in front of contribute towards that.

“The two lads, Graham and Sonny, have been absolutely class and it’s been a joy to have Sonny in front of me.

“A little bit further up with Graham, it’s amazing to see what he can do. There’s no player in this division who can do the things he does.

“We see that week in, week out, and in training day in, day out, but they’ve been great for us and hopefully they both will be next season.”
