DEVELOPMENT professional Alex Battle scored the winner as Argyle's youngsters registered an impressive 1-0 victory over Southampton.
Alex netted in the first half of the game played at Southampton's Marchwood training ground, putting the seal on a Pilgrims' counter-attack by lifting the ball over the Saints goalkeeper.
Argyle had a chance to double their lead against the Catgory 1 Saints side when Luke Jephcott was sent in one on one with the keeper, but his effort was saved.
A pleased Academy director Kevin Hodges said: "We played with a lot of confidence and created some good chances in a very good performance."
Argyle's Northern Ireland Super Cup squad also played against their Southampton counterparts and canme away with a highly creditable 0-0 draw.
