Embrace It

THE Green Army lived up to their fearsome reputation as Argyle’s No.12 at Home Park on Saturday, roaring their heroes over the finishing line of a valuable 1-0 win over Morecambe.

With the Pilgrims under pressure to keep a clean sheet and see off a game Morecambe side, the home support rallied with a full-ground chant that boosted Derek Adams’ men, much to the appreciation of Argyle midfielder David Fox.

“I thought the fans were magnificent in the second half,” he said. “We have had some nervy moments at home this season but I thought they were brilliant; they really did push us on.

“It makes such a difference when they are like that; it really saw us through.

“It a difficult time of the season – there’s a lot of pressure – and I thought they were exactly what we needed; they are really loud, really vocal, didn’t stop, and it put us over the line. It really did make a big difference.

“We are always capable of winning away from home – we always fancy ourselves away from home because we have got grit and determination; it is the home games where I think we have let ourselves down

“But it’s a two-way street – if we can put in performances like that and battle away like we did, then the fans will definitely stick with us.”

Foxy urged the Green Army to live up the club’s theme song of Semper Fidelis over the season’s finale – and to take pleasure from the team’s exploits.

He said: “We have got three games left at home and those three games will be massive for us; if we’re all in it together, it makes such a difference.

“These seasons don’t come along very often, for players, for fans. There have been a lot of tough times down here and I think everyone has to really enjoy it, embrace it.”
