Two for Team

THE football season has reached the time of the cycle when awards...

...are starting to be bestowed and, although the only honour that Argyle manager Derek Adams craves is promotion to Sky Bet League One, he is pleased that two Pilgrims have already received recognition from their peers.

Defender Sonny Bradley and Graham Carey were voted into the EFL League Two Team of the Season by their fellow pros in the division. The only surprise for Derek was that they were not joined by more of their team-mates.

“I thought there might have been couple more that would have pushed into the team of the year,” he said, “but to have two nominated by the players of other teams is fantastic for the two of them. They have all performed well again this season.

“Sonny Bradley, after coming in at the start of the season, has played nearly every match for us, and Graham Carey has played exactly the same as last year and probably added a wee bit more to his game.

“His work-rate is certainly getting better and, off the ball, he has worked extremely hard for the team – I think his team-mates appreciate that – and he has been able to score and assist with many goals this season.

“Sonny has been part of a defence that has kept a good number of clean sheets this season and he’s been able to organise them very well.”

Graham and Sonny still have vital roles to play if they are to team to add a team achievement to their individual honour. With eight games until the end of the season, the Pilgrims are second in   League Two, six points behind leaders Doncaster Rovers, who they play on Sunday.

“There are a lot of big matches to come between now and the end of the season,” said Derek.

“Every one of the eight are going to be good games and there will be a good atmosphere at all the matches including at Doncaster on Sunday, which is a big game for both clubs.

“We know that three points allows us to get back into that title-push; three points is massive in this league and we will be going there trying to get them.”
