In Our Nurses We Trust

WE are giving a warm welcome to representatives from the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) to Home Park for the last home game of the season against Rotherham this Saturday.

The nurses that we are inviting to Home Park are funded by the TCT at Derriford Hospital and they are also the ladies who helped look after our very own Ryan Edwards when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the turn of the year. Already we are excited to be welcoming and thanking them as Eddy hasn’t been able to express how much their care and attention meant to him.

Every day, seven young people aged between 13-24 are diagnosed with cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust is there to make sure young people and their families have the support they need every step of the way.

Here in Plymouth, the TCT fund clinical nurse specialists at Derriford. Lucy and Kerry, who took care of Eddy, are experts in teenage and young adult cancer care. They are there to ensure that patients understand what is going on throughout treatments, make sure they are able to support them in important decisions and to hold their hands throughwhat will be aextremely tough time for them.

TCT rely upon donations and support in order to for them to continue these vital services in order to help young people so, as a part of this, they are holding a bucket collection during the match this weekend in which we would urge you to give generously to this great charity who helped Eddy tremendously.

Additionally, you can also give a helping hand by texting to donate:

Simply text the word NURSE to 70500 to donate £5.*

If everyone who turned up the match this weekend texted to donate £5, for example, the TCT would be able to cover the cost of a nurse for a whole year so every donation counts.

You can also join the TCT team that is taking part in the Britain’s Ocean City Half-Marathon for Teenage Cancer Trust this May. Running 13.1 miles of Plymouth’s finest sites and raising money to support young people with cancer – what could be better? Go to www.teenagecancertrust.org.uk or email Alison.upton@teenagecancertrust.org for more information.

*Teenage Cancer Trust will receive 100% of your donation. Text will be charged at £5 plus one standard network message. Always ask the bill payer’s permission. TCT will text you once to say thank you, then a second time to ask if you would like to hear more from them. They will not contact you again if you do not reply to the second text.
