Ladies 1-1 at Southampton

ARGYLE Ladies were forced to dig deep in earning a point from a 1-1 draw at Southampton Ladies on a day when relentless Pilgrim pressure very nearly yielded no reward.

Hosted at Blackfield and Langley FC, a fairly innocuous first period burst into life when Southampton scored the opening goal against the run of play on 44 minutes.

Becky Dandridge came off the bench for the second period after recovering from illness and Argyle laid siege to the home goal in search of a valuable equaliser.

The leveller finally arrived with 13 minutes remaining and it was down to captain Katie Middleton to find the net. Despite continuing to pile on pressure, Argyle had to settle for a point but credit to Southampton for a resolute display.

On Monday night, the Pilgrims' Carlsberg South West Peninsula League team takes on Cullompton in a Premier Division match at Devon FA headquarters, Coach Road Newton Abbot, kick-off 7.30pm.

On Tuesday, it is the turn of the Central League squad to play. The second-placed Pilgrims take on leaders Bristol Rovers at Gloucestershire FA's Oaklands Park ground, kick-off 2.30pm.

Admission is free, there is ample car-parking and a small covered seated stand.
