ARGYLE captain Gary Sawyer has enjoyed a positive week on the training ground as he continues his recovery from a broken bone in his foot.

The experienced full-back has not featured since the September loss at Charlton, although he did make the bench for last weekend’s draw with Bradford and continues to get stronger as we head to Rochdale on Saturday in Sky Bet League One.

Midfielder Jamie Ness is another who might be an outside option at Spotland but the injured duo of Conor Grant and Scott Wootton will need more recovery time.

“He [Sawyer] is looking good and has trained, but until he gets out playing, the bone is still healing,” said Argyle manager Derek Adams. “He just needs to get a wee bit more training and we had hoped to have a game on Tuesday night.

“Gary’s been here for many years, off and on, he’s a good talker, organiser and well respected.

“Jamie Ness will be assessed before Saturday’s match but everybody else who played last week will be in the squad.

“Conor Grant has got a grade two calf strain, so he’s been out for a bit of time now and looks like he’ll be out for another week or two, which is disappointing. He [Wootton] is due to return to training next week.”
