Klaidi at the Double

ARGYLE followed up their Merit League 2 win at Forest Green with another away success as striker Klaidi Lolos scored twice in the second half in Wales.

Yet this was not a straightforward victory for the Young Pilgrims, as Academy Director Kevin Hodges explained. He said: "We were very uncomfortable in the first half as we could not get to grips with the artificial pitch and we had to rely on several fine saves from Michael Cooper, who was in outstanding form.

'We improved greatly after the break as we got our passing game together, creating several scoring chances."

The closest that Newport came to scoring was on 38 minutes when a long-range strike came back off Cooper's bar but Argyle could have taken the lead on 45 minutes as Lolos flicked the ball on to Matt Ward who saw his lob beat the advancing 'keeper but hit the post.

The second half saw Argyle more in control, especially after taking a 58th-minute lead when Lolos pounced on a loose ball in the area to chip the ball over the home 'keeper from 12 yards.

Argyle made sure of the points on 77 minutes when a good passing movement ended with Tom Purrington putting in Lolos to fire into the bottom corner of the goal.
