Ladies on the Brink

ARGYLE Ladies have set themslves up to clinch the FA Women's Premier League South West Division One title at Home Park.

They beat a spirited Cheltenham Town side 9-0 at Strode College to remain unbeaten this season and enure that a win over Poole at the Theatre of Greens this weekend wil see them crowned champions.

The Pilgrims got off to the perfect start with top scorer Natasha Knapman finishing from close range in the third minute.

Despite creating many chances, the second goal did not arrive until the 34th minute, when Zoe Cunningham picked the ball up 18 yards out and drilled a low shot into the corner of the net.

On the stroke of half-time, player of the match Becky Dandridge profited from a mix-up in the Cheltenham defence to take the ball round the goalkeeper for a tap-in.

The fourth goal came courtesy of a Katie Middleton header following a Kayleigh Brown corner before Argyle scored three in five minutes.

The first came from Dani Barr following a good move down the right between her and Cunningham.

The goal of the game was then scored by Dandridge, who rifled in a 25-yard shot after patient build-up play by the Argyle midfield.

Hepworth made it 7-0 in the 64th minute, ghosting in at the far post to convert a great cross from the right by Barr, and Cunningham scored her second of the night in the 78th minute after being played through by Ebony Dover.

Argyle completed the scoring in stoppage time from the penalty spot, Dover converting after Cunningham had been brought down.

Sunday's big match has been switched to Home Park from Argyle's regular Haye Road home. The game kicks off at 2pm and admission is free.
