Striped for Action
HAVING earned our stripes with a magnificent seventh finish in last season’s Sky Bet League One, we will be wearing them in 2018-19.
As our exclusive picture shows, our PUMA home kit for next season comprises a green and black vertical striped shirt, trimmed with a white V-neck collar and cuffs.
The 2018-19 strip is completed by white shorts, with black trim, and plain white socks.
The shirt will again carry the name of the club’s main sponsors, Ginsters, with a black and white logo of the Westcountry-based savoury pasty manufacturers which perfectly complements the shirt’s design.
Kieran Hemsworth, managing director of Ginsters, said: “Ginsters has been a proud member of the Green Army since our formation in 1969 and I couldn’t think of a better place to have our new heritage logo than on the chest of this fantastic team.
“Last season, Plymouth Argyle showed grit, determination and skill – and we will be in the stands cheering the team on for their first home game of the 2018-19 season.”
Firebird, market-leading manufacturers of heating products, are continuing their partnership as back-of-shirt sponsors.
The shirt colours hark back to the very formation of the football club that eventually became Plymouth Argyle, with green and black being worn from 1886-1901 in various styles.
However, although we are going back to our roots in one sense, we have gone into action in green and black stripes only twice before – or one and a half times, to be more accurate.
We wore it in the first half of the 1973-74 Third Division season, when our colours were carried by the likes of Paul Mariner, Johnny Hore, Ernie Machin, Bobby Saxton and Steve Davey, and for the 1994-95 Second Division campaign, when Steve Castle, Paul Dalton, Mark Patterson, Kevin Nugent and Keith Hill were among the Pilgrims of the day.
The strips will be available from the Argyle Superstore from the first week of July; in the meantime, the Green Army can pre-order now to reserve their kit.
