Derek Adams pre Scunthorpe A 1

ARGYLE manager Derek Adams feels his side now have a template in place –Tuesday night’s confidence-boosting win over Gillingham at Home Park – in order to push themselves up the Sky Bet League One table.

Derek feels the nature of our most recent performance, coupled with our next opponents Scunthorpe United’s wretched league run, that we are capable of sealing back-to-back wins for the first time this season when we travel to Glanford Park at the weekend.

“We just have to pick up from where we left off the other night,” he said. “We started the game very well. We took the game to Gillingham and pressed them really high up the pitch.

“We go to a team on Saturday who have lost their last four games in a row, so we know that we have to do exactly the same as we did the other night.”

An 8,500-strong Green Army watched on gleefully as Freddie Ladapo netted two and laid on another for substitute Ruben Lameiras, and Derek feels it was our best display so far, and by some distance too.

“It has got to be our best performance of the season,” said Derek.

“It was a very good performance on Tuesday. There was very good vocal backing for the team; as I said before, the majority of the supporters have been excellent this season, and have been for a number of years and will continue to be.

“They were very vocal in their backing of the team and that’s what they need at this moment in time. We had a lot of kids in; it was good for them to come to see the players and see a victory

While he was full of praise for Freddie, who has now bagged two goals in each of the last two Pilgrims’ home fixtures, Derek knows his side has a several players capable of sparking the team, or indeed the season, into life.

“We have got a number of players that can do that,” said Derek.

“We have the likes of Lameiras; Graham Carey; the midfield three can pick up the game and get us moving forward. We have got a lot of players in the team that are game changers and that’s really important.”
