Jose Primed

THIS Saturday’s game against Oldham Athletic will be the first time new signing Jose Baxter has faced up against his former club.

Baxter made 84 appearances for the Latics, scoring 21 goals across two separate stints.

The midfielder is yet to start a league game for the Pilgrims but has been impressing in cup games so far this season. His performances are giving manager Ryan Lowe a selection headache ahead of this weekend’s game in Sky Bet League Two.

“You are obviously cautious will he go out and perform, will he go out and try too hard?” Jose is the type of kid that won’t look into it, he had some great times there but now he’s an Argyle player, he loves being here and he’s performing,” said Ryan.

Still not fully fit, the gaffer has been cautious not to risk Baxter too soon.

“It depends what type of game it is, when he played against Reading, he was by far one of the best players, up against a top-quality player in Charlie Adam,” said Lowe.

“There’s loads of factors, I just look at the best team to pick and if Jose Baxter is in that team then he’ll be picked.”

The midfielder who once scored in an FA cup semi-final for Sheffield United, may still have a way to go before he’s established himself in the starting line-up.

“Conor Grant has been playing in the position, Sarce [Antoni Sarcevic] has been playing, so we’re not just going to throw caution to the wind, and we’ll make sure it’s the right choice,” said the gaffer.
