HAVING taken suitable guidance from the government and football authorities, Plymouth Argyle has taken the decision to access government support to furlough a proportion of its workforce, including playing staff.

However, in line with Argyle's Vision and Values, the club has committed to topping up the funding received through the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) to ensure that all furloughed staff will continue to receive their full salaries until the end of June, at the earliest.

Argyle’s aspiration is to become a fully financially sustainable football club, and with all areas of the business - from football to conferencing and hospitality - effectively on hiatus until government measures are lifted, the club felt that accessing government funding was the responsible approach to a difficult situation.

The government may decide to extend the furloughing scheme, depending on progress made in the fight against the pandemic. The club's senior management will monitor and review this situation on an ongoing basis.

A small roster of staff has been retained during the coronavirus pandemic, in addition to senior members of the football operations department, to ensure that essential club business can still be conducted.

As announced last week, the Home Park Ticket Office, as well as the Argyle Superstore, remains closed at this time, while the Mayflower Grandstand is currently being used by the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust as a temporary health centre for antenatal and phlebotomy appointments.
