Rio is a local lad from Plymouth who attends Ivybridge Community College. Rio has been a Pilgrim since the age of six after joining the Plymouth Advanced Development Centre based at Stoke Damerel. He played his club football for Marine Academy and played in the Community Trust tournament at Home Park when he was 11. His performance for Map U11’s stood out and was named player of the tournament by Academy Manager Kevin Hodges.

Rio joined the Academy in 2009 and has spent the last eight years training and playing four times a week for the Academy. Rio was influential in last season's Northern Ireland Super Cup squad. Rio has also represented Plymouth Schoolboys at Under U11 and was made captain for the U14 and U15 age groups.

Rio has also played Youth Alliance League football last season demonstrating a high level of technical ability in particular his passing and quick ball manipulation: Rio is a gritty player and has also demonstrated his potential to score goals. He has also had exposure to men’s football in the Peninsula League and was involved in last season’s successful FA Youth cup run.
