Ashley Smith-Brown

Date of birth

179 cm

Previous clubs: Oxford United (l), Hearts (l), NAC Breda (l), Manchester City.

ASHLEY arrived at Home Park in the summer of 2018 from English champions Manchester City. The local boy joined City’s academy aged just five, and progressed through the ranks to become the title-winning captain of City’s under-18 side.

Internationally, he has represented England at Under-16 to under-20 level, but was unable to force his way into a Manchester City squad boasting some of the world’s greatest talents.

In 2016, he, like many other youngsters, headed on loan to Holland with NAC Breda in the Dutch second tier. An important player during his time in the Netherlands, Ashley helped Breda to promotion via the play-offs.

During the 2017-18 campaign, Ashley furthered his professional development by spending time on loan at Scottish Premiership side Hearts, before switching to Sky Bet League One side Oxford for the second-half of the season.

An adept player, equally comfortable on either flank of defence, Ashley scored his first goal for the Pilgrims in a 5-1 victory over Rochdale at Home Park in February 2019, curling an unstoppable shot home from the edge of the box.

Ashley signed a season-long loan with Oldham Athletic just prior to the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign.
