FORWARD Ryan became Derek Adams’ fourth signing of the 2017 January transfer window after he and Sky Bet League One side Oxford United mutually agreed to cancel his contract.

Ryan had been a prominent player for Oxford that season, making 31 appearances. He joined United in the 2015 summer transfer window, playing 58 times in total, 21 of those appearances from the bench. He scored eight goals for the U’s.

Ryan started his career at Rotherham United, and played 134 games for his local side. In that time he scored 34 goals, two of which came in United’s League Two Play-Off final defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge at Wembley. During his time at Rotherham, Ryan had two short loan spells – at Burton Albion and Exeter City – before a move to Championship club Bristol City in 2011.

In a search for more first-team football, Ryan headed to Portsmouth, for who he scored six goals in 18 games in his first season there, before grabbing 10 goals the following campaign, including one for Pompey against Argyle in a 2-1 Portsmouth win in April 2015.

Last campaign, Ryan made 15 appearances for the Greens, scoring four goals, including one in the promotion-clinching 6-1 win against Newport County at Home Park.
