Nicked It

STRIKER Nick Chadwick scored his first goal since the opening game of the season on Saturday in the 2-0 win over York City, and in doing so scored a mini-victory for his manager, too.

Carl Fletcher revealed that he foreshadowed the events that led to Chaddy – a 73rd minute substitute – grabbing Argyle’s second in the closing minutes.

“I said to Chaddy on Friday that I wasn’t going to play him,” said Carl, “He’s done well for us in the last four games. He’s been dogged, worked hard and got bumped and bruised. He probably hasn’t had his goal that he deserved in those days.

“I said to him that I was going with Griff, who looked a bit fresher, a bit sharper. I said ‘let him do all the hard work, get all the knocks and the elbows in the back of the head. And then you can come on and once that’s all done, the game’s a bit stretched, you can get your goal’

“It panned out that way, which was brilliant. For any striker it’s great to have an open goal one yard out!

“I’m really pleased. Chads, a couple of months when he was out of the squad and not involved at all, knuckled down and worked hard. He has improved in every aspect of his everyday play. It’s great for us, because you want people playing well, training well and pushing for a place in the side.”
