Pilgrims Defeat Albion

ARGYLE won the big sporting showdown of the summer by trouncing their rugby counterparts Plymouth Albion...at carpet bowls.

The Pilgrims prevailed 63-53 in the special contest, arranged by Plymouth City Council and staged in the splendid – and air-conditioned – Plymouth Life Centre.

After an introduction and a description of bowls basics from Life Centre bowls coach Gilly Ainslie, the two sides went head to head on the carpet – the green carpet, naturally.

Teams of three representing each side faced each other across the eight-lane rink, with a Life Centre bowler on hand to keep score.

Scores from each of the matches were then totted up to show that the Pilgrims had taken the keenly-contested match and, with it, local bragging rights.
