Cliché Klaxon

IT is a cliché because it is a truism: goals win games.

With the 2012-13 season barely behind us, Argyle manager John Sheridan has already turned his attentions to next season’s attacking options.

“Striking areas are the most important,” said John. “They are the ones that we’re trying to get in.

“I think that, even though the team has struggled over the last couple of years, defensively, they are one of the best teams in the league.

“But it’s about scoring goals and I’m a big believer that, if you score goals, you’re going to win football matches.

“Even this year, when we have scored, we’ve gone onto win most of the games.

“It always gives you something to hold on to and we need people to put the ball in the back of the net. It’s an area that we need to strengthen and that’s what we’ll be trying to do.”

“I’ve identified players who I think we can try and get and I’ll try and get them in as soon as possible.

“I’ve got a budget and I think I can work around that budget.

“Hopefully, the players I get will make us stronger and be part of a team who are pushing for the play-offs and even automatic and that’s what I’ll be aiming for.

“We’ve got to look high and hit the ground running on the first day of the season.”
