Vivian Pengelly

Remembering Vivien Pengelly

Everyone at Argyle is saddened to hear of the death of former Plymouth City Council Leader, and former Lord Mayor, Vivien Pengelly.

Vivien was the Leader of the Council between 2007 and 2012, and played a huge part in ensuring that the football club survived during the dark days of administration. At that time, the City Council bought the freehold of Home Park and leased it back to the club, a vital part of the plan for survival. For her part in securing the club’s future, we will always be thankful to Vivien.

This was also a time of great change and development across the city, including the opening of the Plymouth Life Centre, adjacent to Home Park, in 2012. Sport played a huge part in her life, and involvement in the development of sports and leisure was a notable focus during her years as Leader.

Life-long Pilgrim Vivien was a fixture at Home Park, a season-ticket holder for many years in the Portcullis Legals Lyndhurst Road Stand before becoming one of the first to sign up for the Pioneer seating in the new Mayflower Grandstand, and had already renewed for the upcoming season. She featured in the club’s ‘We Are Evergreen’ video produced during last season.

Our thoughts are with all of Vivien’s family and friends, of which we know she had a great many at Home Park.

Thanks for everything, Vivien.
