Callington 2 Argyle XI 2

THE Argyle youngsters travelled to the Ginster’s Marshfield Parc fresh from a 5-0 victory at Peninsula Premier side Torpoint...

...but they found their West Division hosts a far better test in a very entertaining friendly.

Argyle were fortunate not to concede a second-minute penalty when Argyle central defender Will Sargent clearly handled the ball but it was on the blind side of the referee and the visitors breathed a sigh of relief.

Argyle hit back, with Sam Borthwick saving well from River Allen before Pilgrims’ ‘keeper Andrew Hannah was off his line in a flash to deny new Cally signing Sam Stevens.

The visitors came back strongly, with Borthwick again doing well to keep out a cracking drive from Joshua Hutchinson who was again denied by the Town ‘keeper who dived full length to deflect his angled drive wide of the far post. From the resulting corner, Sargent thundered a free header wide of the home goal from 10 yards.

Town shook their opponents on the half-hour as Mike Norman shrugged off three challenges on the left wing before firing the ball low across the Argyle area.

Unfortunately for the Greens, Callum Hall and Tom Moxham got in a tangle in trying to clear and the ball ran for Jake Evans to fire across Hannah and inside the far post.

The second half saw Argyle come back strongly, with Jake Miller particularly unlucky as his first-time effort from 22 yards was superbly pushed on to his post by Borthwick.

Argyle were level, on 68 minutes, when Solomon Wheatley cut in from the right to unleash an unstoppable drive into the roof of the home net from 15 yards.

Town had restored their lead, two minutes later, when substitute Ryan Lucassi’s right-wing cross found fellow substitute Bradley Farnham totally unmarked at the far post to fire in to the Argyle goal.

A further two mintues and Argyle were level as Fergus Nevin was penalised for a trip on Keiron Asumadu-Sakyi and Allen, pictured, made no mistake from the penalty spot.
