Peninsula Report - Plymouth Parkway 2 Argyle 2

ARGYLE’s young guns put in a valiant display on Thursday night in the Southwest Peninsula League, as they came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with runaway leaders Plymouth Parkway.

Parkway had won 26 of their 28 league matches this season, losing only once. Argyle fell behind in the 21st minute of the match as a Parkway free-kick flew into the net, and it looked even worse for the young Pilgrims when former Argyle midfielder Ryan Lane doubled Parkway’s advantage in the 51st minute.

The Greens didn’t give up though, and 19-year-old development player Alex Battle scored his 17th goal of the league season on the hour mark to pull Argyle within touching distance. It was soon to be goal number 18 of the season for Battle as he hit a superb strike from distance to draw Argyle level in the 72nd minute.

Battle almost completed his hat-trick late on but was denied by a sprawling save from Parkway’s Kyle Moore. In the end both teams had to settle for a point each, but Robbie Herrera will be delighted with the way his young side came back at the likely champions.
