PREVIEW: Northampton Town vs Argyle

Following an enthralling 4-3 victory over promotion-chasing Lincoln City on Saturday, Ryan Lowe’s Pilgrims travel to bottom-placed Northampton Town on Tuesday night for more Sky Bet League One action.

The Greens will arrive at the PTS Academy Stadium defending a run of six away games unbeaten in the league, stretching back to a 2-1 loss at Crewe Alexandra on 15 December last year.

This Pilgrims’ next opponents - led on a caretaker basis by former youth coach Jon Brady after the recent departure of Keith Curle - are currently at the foot of the League One table, having lost three of their last five league appearances, drawing the remaining two.

On their most recent outing against fellow strugglers Swindon Town at the Energy Check County Ground, midfielder Ryan Watson put the Cobblers ahead in the 26th minute with a low finish after some smart footwork in the box, but Swindon’s Scott Twine brought the two teams level in first-half stoppage time, before a tight second half was decided by veteran striker Brett Pitman. The Cobblers’ last fixture on home soil saw a goalless draw against Rochdale.

In the reverse league fixture, the Pilgrims secured a last-gasp 2-1 victory at Home Park. Striker Frank Nouble put the Greens ahead with less than five minutes remaining of the first half with a header, before Ricky Korboa bagged the equaliser for the Cobblers 20 minutes into the second period. Four minutes from time, defender Kelland Watts hooked home his first league goal of the season, converting George Cooper’s corner.

Town’s top goalscorer so far this season is striker Danny Rose, who has netted five times in all competitions, with Sam Hoskins one behind.

For the Pilgrims, midfielder Lewis Macleod nears a return to the squad, along with club captain Gary Sawyer, while long-term absentee George Cooper continues recovery from knee surgery.
