Academy Scholars Earn Excellent Academic Results

We would like to extend our congratulations to seven members of the Argyle Academy, who produced some excellent education results from the last two academic years.

Jack Endacott, James Morley, Jeffrey Forkuo, Oscar Halls, Samuel N'Sapu, Will Jenkins Davies and Zak Baker all completed their studies and received their results last week for two years of study.

All completed the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport with a minimum grade of DDD (the equivalent of three A-Levels).  James and Jeffrey also completed an additional A-Level at Devonport High School for Boys, meaning they are leaving the club with the equivalent of four A-Levels.

As part of their education overseen by the LFE (League Football Education) the boys completed their UEFA C Licence set up by the PFA and the FA Referee Course in conjunction with the LFE. A number of these boys also visited and delivered talks to local Primary Schools with the Community Trust.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the boys and for the club,” said Gary Menzies, Head of Academy Education at Argyle. “We are passionate about supporting the boys on and off the pitch. All seven now have the option of further education and university if they wish to pursue a career within sport, either through clearing or in future years.

“The educational programme is run in partnership with City College, where the boys are taught in the classroom for one-and-a-half days each week. This takes place alongside their full-time training model and their SEP (Sporting Excellence and Performance) Apprenticeship - a requirement from the League Football Education.

“Football and Education is paramount across the whole academy, where we link with numerous schools across the South West to obtain termly feedback on how each individual signed at the Academy is getting on both in and outside of lessons. This then gives us the opportunity to put additional support in place where necessary, from our Under-9s in Year 4 all the way up through to the Under-18s.”

Phil Stokes, Argyle Academy manager, added: “As an Academy we have high expectations of our players both on and off the pitch. This is a fantastic achievement for all the players over the last two years. Education is an important part of our Academy programme and the players should be extremely proud of their results.”
