'The Waine Train' made Plymouth its second destination when Ben Waine arrived at Home Park in the opening days of 2023.

New Zealand international forward Ben gained a reputation for being one of the southern hemisphere's hottest prospects while playing for hometown club Wellington Phoenix in the Australian A-League, and after a lengthy pursuit, Argyle landed the pace forward, amidst interest from many other teams, including some from the Sky Bet Championship.

A former A-League Young Player of the Year, Waine hit the tracks running when impressing as a substitute at Bolton Wanderers on debut, before scoring in his first start as Argyle won at Bristol Rovers in the Papa Johns Trophy. He also scored a memorable goal at Morecambe on Good Friday, putting Argyle in front in a game they would go on to win 3-1.
