Callum Wright joined Argyle early in the January 2023 transfer window, signing for an unclosed fee from Sky Bet Championship side Blackpool.

The creative attacking midfielder, born in Merseyside, came through the ranks at Leicester City, having spent time as a junior at Tranmere Rovers, Everton and Blackburn Rovers. While at Leicester, Wright headed out on loan to Cheltenham Town, where he helped the Robins to win the Sky Bet League Two title in 2020/21. He returned to Cheltenham for the entirety of the 2021/22 season, scoring nine times and providing seven assists.

Blackpool were impressed enough to sign Callum in the summer of 2022, although the player came close to signing for Argyle. With Blackpool willing to sell the following January, the Pilgrims swooped and finally got their man.

Callum played 23 times as Argyle won Sky Bet League One, and scored one of the most vital goals of the season, popping up very late to get the winner at Shrewsbury Town, five games from the end of the season.
