On The Road Again

ARGYLE manager Carl Fletcher looks set to spend as much time on the road as the training-ground over the opening two weeks of the season.

After Saturday’s opening npower League 2 game against Aldershot at Home Park, Argyle visit Dagenham, Oxford and Burnley before returning home a fortnight later.

That means a lot of mileage, not only for players in the starting 11, but also those who might not feature in the matches, and that can be a potential headache.

“We have to adjust training accordingly so that everyone is doing what they need to do,” said Fletch, “so that, if called upon or they need to play or come on as sub, they are ready and fresh to go and the fitness side of things isn’t an issue.

“With Saturday-Tuesday games for a couple of weeks now, you don’t spend too much time on the training pitch.

“You might get injuries and then you have to use the players that haven’t been playing regularly.

“It’s important that those players are kept happy. There are only 11 that can start but, throughout the season, there are going to be about 50 games and we are going to need everyone.”
