Rest For Rovers

CARL Fletcher’s Plymouth Argyle are due to play Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on New Year’s Day, and will face a Rovers side perhaps little more refreshed that Argyle.

Rovers’ home game with Rotherham on December 22 was postponed, and while Argyle were playing Wycombe this weekend, Rovers’ scheduled fixture with Cheltenham at Whaddon Road also fell foul of the weather.

The manager says he will assess his squad to try to ensure the best result possible for the short trip north.

“Rest is important,” said Carl. “It’s a key factor in getting ready for the game. There’s not a lot of work you can get in in a short space of time.

“We’re travelling up on Monday evening to be ready for a one o’clock kick off. They didn’t play today and they didn’t play the other day. We’ve had two games where they’ve had none.

“We’ve got a few bumps and scrapes. Baz [Onismor Bhasera] came off with blurred vision from his bang on the head, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“But we’ve got good players who can come in and produce something.”
