Fans A Lot

THE generous Green Army is providing a summer of fun for vulnerable children.

The Barnardo's Young Carers Service in Plymouth has received £1,015 from the Plymouth Argyle Supporters Training & Development Trust.
The money, which will be used to provide free football coaching and other events, was presented to Barnardo's project lead Yazmine Labban by Trust volunteer Virginia Pike.
Young carers sometimes struggle to look after sick or disabled parents, taking responsibility for cooking, cleaning and shopping together with providing personal care.
The Plymouth project has a particular focus on some of the community's most vulnerable families with additional needs. Barnardo's staff work with local schools to ensure that a child's education does not suffer, as well as providing breaks where they can spend time with other young carers and share their experiences.
Yazmine said: "We are sincerely grateful for this generous donation, which will provide a welcome break for some of the city's most vulnerable children and young people.
"Young carers can sometimes become isolated and miss the opportunity to enjoy their childhood, but this money will encourage them to relax and have fun.
"They will be able to mix with other young carers and make new friends, realising they are not alone."
Virginia said: "Once again, we are delighted to support such a worthwhile organisation and we hope our donation will make a difference to these young peoples' lives.
The service is keen to hear from potential volunteers who can support young people in accessing youth clubs and other leisure activities.
You can contact the Barnardo's Young Carers Service on 01752 564572 or email them at barnardos.org.uk.
Barnardo's South West is also responsible for Plymouth BASE (Barnardo's Against Sexual Exploitation), PIVAS (Plymouth Independent Visitor & Advocacy Service) and the Sweet Peas Sure Start Children's Centre, which provides free support to parents and carers of under-5s.
