Rhys On Trial

LEAGUE of Wales golden boyo Rhys Griffiths will line up for the Pilgrims in their second pre-season friendly at Truro City on Tuesday evening.

Striker Rhys, 32, has been on trial with Argyle during the past two weeks, with manager Carl Fletcher having been aware for some time of a player who has topped the Welsh League scoring charts with Llanelli for the best part of the last decade.
“I met Rhys a couple of years ago and got to know a bit about him,” said former Welsh international skipper Fletch.
“Rhys has played his entire career in the Welsh League – he’s been leading scorer for the last seven seasons – and, winning the league in Wales, he’s played in Europe.
“He has a very impressive scoring record. No matter what level you’re at, you have still got to put the goals away.
“He’s come in for a second time – he was down last week. He has come in and not looked out of place.
“He’ll play tomorrow night and we’ll see how he gets on.”
Rhys, who moved to Port Talbot in the summer, has never played league football outside his native nation.
Fletch said: “He’s 32, but he’s a fitness freak, and there are no shrinking violets in the Welsh League. He’s well capable of looking after himself.
“He’s a real nice fella and it’s good to have him down.”
