Working Through It
12th July 2012
NEW captain Darren Purse is hoping to lead the Pilgrims into a new era.
Argyle's new skipper was full of excitement ahead of the new season, insisting that after the club's recent downturn in fortune, it's time to press on."The club has been in the doldrums for the last three seasons now and you can't get away from that," said Pursey.
"But we need to get that winning mentality back in the football club. The club doesn't deserve to be where it is, particularly from a playing side, as the lads have give 110% for the last three years.
"It's unfortunately just been mismanaged off the pitch. We've got a great new owner though with a passion for the club and hopefully we can press on."
Darren - along with the rest of the squad - returned for Carl Fletcher's first pre-season in charge last Wednesday. What they probably weren't expecting though is a pre-season schedule as challenging and arduous as it has been.
Despite the hard work, Darren insists it will be worthwhile in the long run.
"You've had your holiday, your chilling time and now it's back to the hard stuff," said Darren.
"The lads understand that, they know there's going to be tough sessions until the games start. It's not just building up to Portsmouth though it's Aldershot too and the six pre-season games we've got before then will get our fitness up.
"We can't go straight into the games though without having a base and that's what we're doing at the moment. It'll be a tough old season, 46 league games plus whatever cup games we get in too but this is what we're building up to now. "
