Argyle Welcome New Director

COLIN Sexstone has joined the Plymouth Argyle Board of Directors.

Colin, the former Bristol City Chairman and ex-Gloucestershire County Cricket Club Chief Executive, has been appointed a Non-executive Director of the Pilgrims.

Argyle Chairman and owner James Brent said: “I am delighted that Colin has agreed to join the Board of Plymouth Argyle.

“Colin has a wealth of experience in leading major sports clubs, most recently having spent 11 years as Chief Executive and, then, Chairman of Bristol City Football Club.

“Colin shares the vision of the rest of the Board and management team that Plymouth Argyle should sit at the heart of our community in the South West Peninsula and provide our supporters with football at a high standard in a hospitable environment.”

Colin said: “I am absolutely delighted to join the Board of Plymouth Argyle and will try to use my 16 years of professional sports experience to help the club to increase their revenues and build a team to make sure that they get back up the leagues as soon as possible.

“I have always enjoyed my visits to Home Park, where the fans have always impressed me, and this is a very exciting time for the club.

“I have only joined the Board because the Chairman and other Directors impressed me with their commitment and determination to build a club based on solid foundations, but with realistic ambitions going forward.

“I cannot wait to start.”

Colin, 64, joined Gloucestershire in 1996 after a career in the RAF, and both club and ground flourished in his five years as Chief Executive.

As well as seeing Gloucestershire win five one-day trophies, Colin was responsible for the development of the County Ground to international standards.

He joined Bristol City in 2001, since when the Robins have won promotion to the Championship, narrowly missing promotion to the Premier League when they lost the 2008 play-off final to Hull City.

They also won the LDV Vans Trophy at the Millennium Stadium.

Under his leadership, Bristol City more than doubled its revenues and he launched a range of successful events at Ashton Gate, including major concerts and international rugby.

As a governor of the City Academy – one of the first Academies in the UK – he was instrumental in its formation and construction and is Director of the Football League Trust.

Colin also played a key role in delivering plans for the club’s new stadium and in Bristol’s selection as a host city for England’s 2018 World Cup bid.

Prior to becoming a sports administrator, he served 25 years in the RAF where his roles included Chief Executive of RAF Rudloe Manor and Director of Personnel.

Colin, who will take his place on the Argyle Board following the formality of Football League approval, joins Financial Director and Acting Chief Executive Martin Baker, and Non-executive Directors David Felwick, Richard Holliday and Peter Jones under the chairmanship of James Brent.
