Old Friends

CARL Fletcher and Damien Johnson once patrolled the Argyle midfield together but on Saturday, old friendships will be put on hold.

Former Northern Ireland international Johnson was brought to Home Park by then head coach Paul Mariner in January 2010 and made 20 appearances in green before leaving for Huddersfield in August 2011.

Now, Jono is one of the shining lights in Fleetwood Town’s all-star line up but, despite their friendship, Fletch does not expect his former team-mate to divulge any secrets.

“I’ll try and call him but I don’t think he’ll give too much away,” joked the Argyle manager.

“I got on very well with Jono. He had his opinion and I had mine and we used to chat about all sorts.

“I’ve spoken to him since he left, too. He’s a really nice, down to earth fella and he’s quite refreshing to speak to.

“He’s a family man who keeps himself to himself and he’s quite a straight-laced.

“He’s got good morals and he would be a great pro for young lads to learn from – to see how he carries himself on and off the pitch.”
